Artificial intelligence; not so much who is using AI but how are you using AI?

So, is AI an ingrained progressive tool to make us more efficient or a substitute for our skillset? Either way the debate has shifted in certain circles to include how you use AI within your organisation.
According to a poll conducted by YouGov.com, AI is rapidly becoming embedded in everyday business practices. Recent research shows that nearly one-third of UK SMEs use AI tools daily, with another 15% actively experimenting with them.
The YouGov poll goes on to say, “That not everyone is fully onboard with AI. Those businesses not planning to use AI, half point to concerns around data privacy and security (49%). And one in five (19%) are put off by ethical concerns.”

If any of your clients fall into the categories of those concerned with security or the ethical aspects of AI, then demonstrating how you plan to ethically use it would be of benefit to you.

David Reilly, Data Protection Officer (DPO) with Talkriskgroup.com comments, “Our clients are interested in communicating how they ethically use AI. As their DPO we enable our clients to communicate their ethical usage to their customers, suppliers and employees. We want our clients to be ready for any concerned queries and have the correct services, and language, to assist them in the management of their reputation and, of course, to win future contracts”.
“Having a DPO on board allows you to ensure all policies and procedures are up to date and to effectively communicate to employees, customers and suppliers how AI is used throughout the organisation”.
A recent blog by IOD (institute of directors) called “AI opportunities and risks – Is your business prepared?” recommended a number of actions to prepare or deal with AI usage within your organisation. They recommend directors and managers should:-
A. Know your AI – Identify where AI is used in your business, both internally and externally.
B. Prioritise AI governance – Ensure your AI usage is strategic, ethical and accountable – following good governance practices
